Privacy

Travelia has no accounts, no server and no database. There is nowhere for us to keep anything about you, and we don't. What follows is what actually happens in your browser.

What we collect ourselves

Nothing. The site is a set of static files. We never see your searches, the places you open, the home town you type, or the trips you save — none of it is sent anywhere we control.

What your browser contacts, and when

Because there is no server doing the work, your browser talks to a few free public services directly. Any site you connect to necessarily sees your IP address; that is how the web works, and it is the honest reason this list exists.

Whenever you use the map

• CARTO basemaps.cartocdn.com — the base map tiles under the data
• ipwho.is ipwho.is — a rough guess at your home town, so the map can cost trips from where you are. You can type a different home instead, and nothing is stored about you either way.
• Google Analytics googletagmanager.com — aggregate visit counts on the map page only, plus five anonymous interaction events — opening a destination card, clicking a row in the top picks, copying a link, saving a trip, and following a "check live price" link. Each records the trip type, month and destination involved, and nothing about you. It sets cookies.

Only when you ask for something

These fire at the moment you act, and not before — opening a destination card fetches the first six for that place; the last one fires only if you open the school-holiday list:

• Open-Meteo open-meteo.com — live weather, UV and sunset for the place you opened
• Wikipedia wikipedia.org — the photo and short description on the card
• Wikimedia Commons commons.wikimedia.org — destination photos (served directly from their CDN)
• Unsplash / Pexels unsplash.com, pexels.com — the large hero photo, which their terms require us to link rather than copy
• Frankfurter frankfurter.dev — the exchange rate used to show prices in your currency
• Nager.Date date.nager.at — public holidays in the destination country
• OpenHolidays openholidaysapi.org — school-holiday dates for your country — only when you open the “School holidays” list on the month bar. It receives the country code and nothing else.

Cookies

Travelia itself sets no cookies. Google Analytics, on the map page, does — it is the one third-party script here that behaves like conventional web analytics. Blocking it costs you nothing: everything on the site works identically without it.

What is stored on your device

Your settings live in your browser's local storage, on your device only. They are never uploaded, and clearing your browser data removes them permanently — there is no copy elsewhere.

• theme, accentColor — your dark/light choice and accent colour
• profile, notch — the traveller profile and the five preference sliders
• saved — trips you pinned — the place, trip type and month, nothing else
• currents, storms, monsoon — which map layers you switched on

Children

Travelia is a travel-planning tool for a general audience and is not directed at children.
